Markus Sutter is a research specialist of the MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory, working at the LBNL site of the Kerfeld lab. Before joining the Kerfeld lab in 2011, Markus obtained his PhD in Biophysics at ETH Zurich in Switzerland in 2008, characterizing a nanocompartment termed Encapsulin in the lab of Nenad Ban where he stayed on for a short postdoc. His research focuses on structure determination of proteins and protein complexes of bacterial microcompartments (BMC) using x-ray crystallography and cryo-EM as well as bioinformatic analysis.
